Character Name:Yamato Kono Nickname(s):Yama Age22 Gender: Male Field:Gym Leader Kind:Fire
Appearance: Yamato stands fairly tall at 6'2 and hasn't grown anymore since he was eighteen, nearly nineteen years of age. His most outstanding feature is his bright, dark red hair. It is styled in spikes and at the hairline looks to be a bit slicked back. His eyes are a vibrant emerald green, quite a captivating color. He has two elongated black upside down tear drop tattoos under his eyes. His complexion is quite fair and his skin tone is somewhat pale, but during summer time, Yamato can have a very nice tan.
He is quite lean and toned, his anatomy almost seems longer than it should be at times. Perhaps it's due to his long torso and the fact that black is so slimming a color. He seems to monopolize on that look, though. He has hands and feet that match with his height: not too small nor too large. He thinks himself a sexy beast,(which he is, so don't be denying it) but that simply goes along with his arrogance and ego.
Personality:This guy has a hell of a lot more self confidence than most people would even dream of. But is it a cover for his own doubts and fears? He seems to have a huge ego. He doesn't really flirt with girls, not in the usual style. He just treats them the same as he treats most guys. He's pretty picky but it's not a secret that he likes to tease everyone. He'll even flirt with a guy just to make them squirm in discomfort. He likes to tease, and he might be relaxed most of the time, but he has a red hot temper. Piss him off and he won't calm down very easily. He tends to be very given to showing emotionally what he's feeling. So while he may have a thing about being too manly to cry in front of anyone, it shows equally when he's happy, angry or hurting. He isn't good at hiding it, though he does sometimes bottle a few things until he blows up or breaks down.
He's a bit of a pyromaniac. He has an obsession with fire, and watching things burn. So the fact that he has matches and several lighters on his person at all times? No surprise. He isn't all that crazy though. He doesn't go around burning puppies and kittens, or people, for that matter. He has virtually no shame. The idea of stripping down in front of anyone, girl or guy? Doesn't even phase him. And for friends, he's picky about who he lets in. Regular acquaintances? He's decently social, so he has a lot of those. He tends to manipulate the people he doesn't like or respect. Respect is something you earn with him, just like trust. And he holds a nasty grudge, so if you do something to hurt him, or lie to him, stab him in the back? You'll have to work twice as hard to gain anything back from him.
He was the kind of guy to cut classes and stuff, but he's average in smarts. He doesn't mind reading so long as it's fiction. Non-fiction bores the crap out of him. He can fight half decently, but nothing special. He can just stand up for himself is all. Plus he's not really a cowardly sort. He'll have his own skin, but if he thinks he can win or come out equal he's got no problem jumping into something. He just has the sense to know when to run and when to fight. It keeps his hide safe, and other people's who have the sense to take his advice.
Though he's always teasing or joking, his close friends will find a loyal friend they can confide in and who tries his best to help them out. He knows when a problem is too big to handle on his own, so he doesn't mind working as a team. He's a pretty decent team player. He isn't really the leader type. He doesn't want to be the one responsible for everyone else. He'll do his part but he doesn't really put himself out there as much as some people would. His hide and those of his closest companions? Comes first every time. He's a survivalist, and the will to come out alive and well is stronger than anything else. It's not his fault if someone else is stupid and gets in over their heads. Unless he's really close to them, he'll watch out for himself.
History:There isn't much to tell about Yamato. He was given up for adoption as a child, only he ended up in an over crowded orphanage. His single mother couldn't handle raising him on his own, so he was already five when she gave him up after she lost her employment. He never got another home. He never wanted one.
He ended up being a rebellious kid that made sure whoever came for him either sent him back or didn't take him at all. He had a couple friends at all times, usually they ended up adopted but he'd just make friends over and over again. By the age of twelve he was in a gang of children in the same situation as he was. No home, but street smart with lots of connections. Typical of orphans no? Of course he was sent to public school, but he skipped a lot and only got average grades, even though surprisingly he never failed any classes. The closest he came was a -C, in gym, which he hated. It was a pity because he might have been better than a B or C average. As it was, he only cared that he graduated, not with what marks. The gang he was in grew in number. They were just a bunch of guys, close like brothers are close, and hardly ever any girls, maybe two or three most. As most of the girls where too scared or to weak to be in the gang.
Yamato only had his name to really remember his mom by. He wasn't curious, he knew why he'd been given up and personally didn't let it get to him. But he did wonder who his father had been, and why he'd never met him. In the gang, you learned to fend for your own skin. Even if the rest of your 'mates' had your back? You learned it was always important to never let your guard down. By the time he was sixteen he had moved into a three bedroom townhouse with two other guys and was working as a Pokemon assistant trainer. Pay was good, the pokemon seemed to like him, well, more so than the mudkip that the owner of the orphanage had. That mudkip hated him. Yamato had his first serious relationship at sixteen, but they were too different. She was a really smart girl with a good education and a church goer and wanted to be a coordinator and a pokemon breeder. He was a bad boy from the other side of the tracks. She broke it off because her parents thought she could do better. So did Yama, but he never told her as much. He wasn't happy to see her go, but what could he do? He hadn't much to offer her.
He got his first pokemon when he was fiffteen, never took training seriously until he started to get more involved with pokemon. Soon after his sixteenth birthday Yamato started fresh. He told his gang that he was leaving, they didn't want to let him leave as they said 'once your in, your in.' But with a bit of persuasion he was let out.
When he was seventeen he took on the Elite Four and managed to beat the champion. Even doing a few non-pokemon battling compitions here and there for money and soon was offered to become the fire gym leader's underling, and adopted son. Yamato didn't accept it too eagerly, but he figured he could use an older and stable male figure in his life and accepted. His pokemon team fit in fairly well with the fire type gym, although he has a few back home as they aren't fire types and can't be used in the gym.
He became leader of the gym after the man died four years later. An that sums up his whole life's story.
