When Ava had opened her eyes that day, she had known that it would be a good day to start her journey today. What tipped her off? Not a cheerful Tailow singing a song outside her window. Not a person with a random act of kindness. It wasn't even the sun shining brightly in the window. Though, it did have to do with the weather...

No, when Ava became aware of her surroundings in the hotel room, the first thing she noticed was the plitter-plutter splitter-splatter of heavy rain. The redhead couldn't help but burst out into a grin. Contrary to her sunny personality, Ava loved the rain. Was it the smell of water of asphalt or dirt? Was it the idea of curling up next to a warm fire with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book? (A romance novel, preferably. Ooh, she was in the middle of a good one right now. Just tell Derek how you feel! she had been thinking for the last three chapters.) Was it the free baths? Maybe it was all that and more. Ava just loved the clean feel of the rain. It washed away old sorrows and memories, leaving a fresh, clean slate...A new beginning.

In Ava's opinion, there couldn't have been a better day to start her new life.

After leaving the hotel, Ava wandered down to where the lab was. Enjoying the rain, she pulled back the hood to her jacket and let the umbrella she was carrying drop. For a moment, she indulged in her childish fantasies and spread her arms wide, spinning and opening her mouth in an attempt to catch the rain in it before realizing how silly she looked and stopping.

By the time Ava Gallagher reached Hajime Labs, her red hair had turned dark from the water and she had had to remove her glasses quite a few times to wipe the droplets off. She glanced down at herself and chuckled. She was sopping wet. Unfortunately, that couldn't be good for the probably nice, clean floors of the lab. Not wanting to cause any water damage, she merely opened the door to the lab and stuck her head in. "Excuse me? I'm Ava. I'm here for a pokemon?"

The gentle pitter pat pitter pitter on the metal roof of the laboratory was soothing to the professor and his Pokemon. They just relaxed all day today, taking in the aroma of the falling rain.
It had been awhile since it had rained for this long, let alone have overcast clouds for more than two or three hours at a time.
Before the Professor could indulge a few more seconds in the nice laboratory, the door was gently opened and a small head popped through the open slit and asked if anyone was here.
The Professor quickly hopped off his butt and ran to the door, not wanting the new trainer to just sit out in the rain. That's no fun, being all wet and cold. Being inside and warm is always the best alternative. The girl said she was here for a Pokemon, so at least he could entice her in to the building.
<"Hi there!"> he said, opening the door all the way and gently tugged the girl into the building, <"Come in! Come in! No need for you to stand out in the rain all by yourself!">
Nilly and Lake wafted over to the girl, bumping into her, making them giggle. They continued to float around the room, and finally stopped and fell on the coach.
<"What Pokemon do you have in mind?"> he asked, his eyes glittering with excitement for the first trainer of the day.
Perhaps he could coax some hot chocolate or something into the girl's system to get her warmed up and ready to embark today.

Ava squeezed the moisture out of her red hair as best as she could before stepping into the lab. Still, the steady drip drip drip of water falling onto the floor could be heard. Well, she would try to keep this quick so the nice professor wouldn't have to worry about mopping up water after she left. The girl laughed a little at the professor's two pokemon, a Castform and a Vanillite, ran up to say hello, and she managed to pat them both on the head before they ran off. How cute.

"Um..." she paused. She had found a list of pokemon that the professor had in stock, and she had been thinking about it last night. Still, it was hard to decide. Now, what were the ones she had narrowed it down to? Thankfully, there was a list of starters on the wall to remind her. She glanced it over before counting off the pokemon on her fingers.

"May I see a Charmander, a Mudkip, an Oshawott, an Eevee, and a Solosis?" she counted. That was five. Did he even have them all still in stock? What if a bunch of other trainers had showed up before her? "Sorry there are so many," she laughed. "There are so many good ones! It's so hard to choose, and I want to make sure I make a good decision."

The girl just kept listing and listing Pokemon, the Professor's jaw started to drop a little. Once she hit a solid statement finished, he walked over to the PC and poked the screen at random intervals, and 5 Poke Balls popped out of the side. He released the Pokemon held within, red bursts of light filling the room for a short interval of time.

The Pokemon popped out of it's Poke Ball and started hitting it's head on the table.

It kind of just stared up at the girl and blushed kind of, whispering to itself.

The Pokemon popped up off the ground, and walked over to the girl and just stared up at her. The Oshawott pointed to all the Pokemon and gestured to her that this was for all of them. She slowly hugged the girl's legs with her otter paws.

The Pokemon gave a grin to the trainer, who returned the grin. The Eevee quickly grimaced at the trainer, and stalked off under a table and started kicking the chair leg.

The Pokemon stretched a little, and started to clean up the area a little bit.

Ava did feel really bad about all the pokemon she was thinking about, but she did want to be sure. After all, this was going to be her first pokemon! Still, now she had to focus, now that they were out and about.

First of all, the Charmander. The moment it came out of its pokeball, it started to smash its head on the table. A violent, masochistic, possibly even sadistic pokemon. Ava shuddered and turned her sights to the next pokemon.

The next was a Mudkip, a pokemon she was highly familiar with. Not only was it from Hoenn, and a pokemon one could find at the lab, it was a water-type, too! This pokemon stared up at her with wide eyes, and it seemed to be whispering to someone. Or something. Ava wasn't sure if that was cute or creepy. She decided on cute. It was difficult for her to hate Mudkips.

The Oshawott was adorable as well. Since it was from far-away Unova, she didn't know as much about their species. Still, the way the pokemon came up and wrapped her paws around her legs made Ava smile and pat it on the head.

The Eevee was an automatic no in Ava's mind. She had just smiled at it! And yet it had scowled at her and ran over to kick the char leg. Wonderful. Another violent one.

Finally, the Solosis. It was another Unova pokemon, so she wasn't familiar with it. However, she knew it was a psychic type, which were powerful allies in battles. Still, Ava wasn't sure she could deal with the constant cleaning...

Eventually, she looked up from the pokemon to the professor. "May I have the Mudkip, please?" she smiled.
