Character Name: Audrey Mcbay Nickname(s): None Age: 17 Gender: Female Field: Trainer Kind: Human
Appearance: Audrey has short golden brown hair which just barely reaches her shoulders. She used to have a full fringe but has outgrown it so that she now has it swept to the side. It is straight and spikes slightly at the edges, growing lighter towards the tips. Her eyes are a deep, dark dark brown, which glow warmly and are constantly smiling.
Audrey’s five and a half feet tall, a pretty average height, but her long arms and fingers give her a lanky look. This look is doubled by Audreys constantly relaxed posture which gives her an awkward but unperturbed look. She has light freckled skin and pierced ears which have small hoop earrings through them.
As a frequent traveler, Audrey doesn’t have many clothes in her possession. When she picks up some new ones, it’s usually because she’s grown sick of her old pair or they’ve grown too small or ragged to be worn anymore. She has a very casual style, usually wearing her favourite tawny cargo pants with her white tank top, a sturdy dark belt and a pair of dark brown laced boots which go up to her mid calf. Audrey also has a faded camp backpack in which she carries all her belongings, including a thick black zip up hoodie for winter and her sketchpad.
Personality: From the moment you see Audrey, you can tell she’s a relaxed kind of person. From her casual clothing to her nonchalant way of walking, there’s no sign of stress in the young girl. Maybe it’s the years of travelling or just the habit of being the rebellious child in the family, but Audrey has a way of always seeming at ease. She knows how to fit in easily and there’s rarely any awkward silences around this girl. She’s a quick and friendly talker with a knack of picking up on people’s feelings on a subject. This skill makes it easy for her to make friends, a valuable ability for one who is always moving to new places. Audrey is also known to crack jokes at her own expense as well as make sarcastic but light hearted comments about others. She has a good sense of humor although some people might not get hers.
It takes a while to realize that the cool demeanor she presents isn’t the only state of mind Audrey has. While she does have a slow, relaxed way of dealing with things she is very stubborn and determined about getting her way. She’s hard working and loyal and once she’s started something you can be sure she will not stop until it’s done. Audrey’s not one to burst out with a flaming temper, controlling her anger to channel them through quiet but pointed words or a simple glare. When it’s all too much, the blonde girl likes to return to serenity by sketching the world around her or, when more troubled, draw from her memory. Drawing from her memory calms her more because it reminds her of what she’s seen and what she’s done. Above all, Audrey loves her travelling. She’s often thought that, if she were a pokemon, she would be a Jumpluff, for they just float to wherever with the breeze, somewhere new each day.
And while Audrey tends to make good first impressions, her flaws are numerous. Her casual personality often means she can come across as rude or uninhibited without her meaning to. Her relaxed impression causes many people to not take her seriously and her patient, all knowing attitude can get annoying as she could sound like she’s patronizing someone when she talks to them. She doesn’t think too much before she says things and while she’s usually a skilled talker enough to not sound like an idiot, there will be times when she says something stupid and falls flat. This more often than not happens when she’s trying to flirt or being flirted with. Audrey just doesn’t have the experience or personality to deal with that very well. She’s not one to give up though, always ready to pick herself up and try again.
Audrey has a major dislike (almost a fear really) of loud noises. You’d think being relaxed all the time would make her less jumpy but if so much as a door slams, Audrey will flinch like she’s been hit. Audrey doesn’t really have any goals in life. She’s quite contented to continue to travel and widen her knowledge and experience of the world.
History: Audrey Mcbay led what she would call a very dull childhood. She was the youngest child in a family of three and the only girl. Growing up surrounded by brothers probably led to her picking up some traits from them, especially since her mom wasn’t around much. The father of this family was a sailor in the navy, often going away for long periods of time before returning for a month or two. He would tell his children all kinds of stories about the lands to which he sailed while they would listen intently. He was a strict but kind man who wanted to ensure that his children grew up disciplined and well eductaed. While Audrey’s two older brothers quick to admire and follow their father’s orders, the young girl was less keen. She was a bit of a trouble maker as a child, purposefully breaking things, starting fights with her siblings and disobeying rules. As the only girl she was rather spoilt and allowed to get away with these acts, leading to her less cultured attitude today. Audrey’s mom was not a very responsible person; nearly always out of the house, going places with her friends and leaving her children home alone. Audrey had to grow up under the care of her brothers and later only herself.
Audrey and her brothers used to go out to wave their dad off whenever he set sail from Canalave city. While her elder brothers were vastly interested in the ships and navy, vowing to become sailors themselves one day, the young girl was fascinated by the people who came and left the city each day. She wanted to know where they came from, where they were going, what they had seen. She dreamed of travelling the land and ocean, of seeing things and meeting people. The young girl spent a lot of time in the famous Canalave library, researching about the different parts of the globe. She also started to try drawing this time, but with her dad gone, her mother out and her brothers busy with school work and their own ambitions, she had no one to encourage her and so dropped it.
A few years later, when her eldest brother was 18 and she was 12, he left to join the navy. The following year, her other brother joined him. Audrey was now left alone. She avoided her home, spending most of her days sketching absent mindedly at the port or talking to the incoming travelers. Audrey and her mother were rarely ever in the house at the same time together; neither really caring where the other one was or what they were doing.
When Audrey was 16, word came by letter that her father had died. Her two brothers returned from their work to mourn with the family. While Audrey had never truly been close to either of her parents, she remembered her father’s stories of faraway lands and loved him for inspiring her passion for travel. When her two brothers came to leave Canalave again, Audrey decided to leave to. Not to the Navy but to anywhere. She wanted to journey the world and never come back again. She took the first boat to anywhere and left everything she had known behind.
Travelling the world suited Audrey perfectly. Pokemon centers usually provided food and shelter for weary travelers so she stayed in those often. When travelling into more wild areas, she would sleep in her small tent and sleeping bag, perfectly happy to rest beneath the stars. She always packed enough smoke balls so that if she met a particularly aggressive pokemon, she could flee from it. Audrey also started her drawings again, sketching famous buildings in cities and areas in the wild to keep in her sketchbook as a solid memory of where she’d been.
A year later, Audrey arrived in the Erinuki region. Far away from what she had once called home, for the first time, Audrey started to feel lonely. Upon hearing about Hajime town's famous lab, she decided it was time she recieved a pokemon to have a companion in her journey.
